Safety Authorization Basis Team Overview
The Safety Authorization Basis Team (SABT) mission is to assure the development and approval of adequate controls that ensure new or continued operations at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) facilities in support of mission-critical processes and programs can be conducted in a safe manner, that regulatory commitments relative to safety are met in a timely, cost-effective and high quality manner, and that the associated safety basis needs of the program managers and sponsors from throughout the complex are supported by LANL and LASO.
- All work shall be properly authorized and properly analyzed.
- Our goal is to perform the program safely.
The Authorization Basis Team reviews the adequacy of safety analysis work done by prime and support contractors, including spot check selection and use of specific analytical tools and models; judges the effectiveness of the technical staff work, and compares residual (uncontrolled) risk to the benefit of the task. The approval authority must also be able to make appropriate judgments to accept risk on behalf of the public.
